Breakfast – the most important meal of the day, right? Well, now you can start your day with Dr. Dick’s recipe for the healthiest granola you’ll ever find – because you make it yourself! I never buy any type of cereal from the grocery store, and neither should you. If you look carefully at the labels, most if not all of them are loaded with high fructose corn syrup, soy/corn/safflower oil (chemically modified, of course), and processed grains (meaning some or all of the nutrients are lost). Don’t even get me started on what I think of their misleading ads on TV! So here’s my simple recipe you make make in less than 15 minutes. A batch of this will feed you a great breakfast for weeks.
- 6 cups of raw (not “instant” ) oatmeal
- 4 cups of raw wheat germ (you can leave this out if you can’t tolerate gluten)
- 4 cups of oat bran
- 2 cups of sunflower seeds
- 1 cup of dried goji berries (you can find these on the Internet or at health food stores)
- 1 cup of craisins (dried cranberries)
- 1 cup of flax seeds
- 1 cup of chia seeds
- 2-4 cups of mixed nuts (you can chop them up if you like, but I don’t – your teeth need the exercise!)
.
Add all ingredients to a large mixing bowl and fold them together with a big spoon. Then store them in a large plastic container. For breakfast, I use only 6 tablespoons of granola with plenty of coconut milk (you can buy this at Whole Foods – I avoid all soy products, including soy milk, and most dairy products). This keeps me full and going until lunch time.
A couple of comments – dried goji berries are great, but they don’t have as much “active” nutrition as our Go-Chi concentrated goji juice. So if you want the “real stuff”, go check us out. You can get many of these ingredients at your local health food store or a natural foods grocery like Whole Foods. My source for the chia seeds (like flaxseed, a rich source of Omega-3 oils) is Whole Foods as well.
Have a great and healthy day!
Dr. Dick

YUM! This sounds so good to me. I love granola and fruit for any meal but I guess I need to eat it in moderation as well. Thank you for your recipe and you bet I’m going to try it!
